Father's Day - Part 2

On they way home from our aborted bike ride, we passed Lake Sammish and decided to check out the boat launch. The lake is lovely but the take out is brutal. We don't have a 4x4 so it makes pulling our boat out a major operation with as many adult in the back of the truck as possible. We are a little short of adults in our family so we wait until other people arrive. Since we haven't been here for a couple years due to that reason we decided to check it out. The day in Bellingham was beautiful not at all like in Woodinville. We pull into the lot, look around and the next thing I know John is diving into the water. We bribed the kids to go into the water too.

Job found a log that he could float on. Apparently that was better than getting all wet.

Lona wanted to try it out so bad. Lona veut esseyer le bateau aussi.

John was able to talk Job into swimming with him. finalement, John et Job nager ensemble dans la lac.

It was harder to get Lona into the water.

This was her reaction to the water.

Since when did Isaac become a farmer? What is with the grass? Qu'est que Isaac fait? Il n'est pas un fermier.

My favorite photo of the day. The color is off but I love the interaction of everyone.
That is how we ended father's day. An impromptu swim on the way home. I love spontaneity.

A question by Job and a challenge for Summer

The other day Job asked me a question that I can't answer. How come you can see the shadow of heat but you can't see heat. I've noticed Post a comment please with this answer. Pass it on if you know someone that can answer this 8 year old.
Another question that he has asked that I could answer was "As someone in a car is moving toward you how come the appear to move faster and sound faster as they come nearer to you and then slow down after they pass you?" I remember watching a video about that in science in high school. I've never thought about these kinds of questions. What goes through that mind.
Now a challenge. I'm going to take some photos over the course of the summer that say "summer" to me. Play along if you want. First challenge it to take photos of your garden. If you don't have a garden then take a photo of a garden/landscape around your town that you admire. Love to see every one's photos.

Father's Day - Part 1

On Sunday, we drove to Woodinville to go on a bike ride. The trail is Lake Sammamish Trail. We started at Wilmot Gateway Park in Woodinville. We often stop at this park when Isaac sees his doctor. I've always wanted to bike the trail that runs through it. As we started there came a large group of bikers with numbers on their shirts. Apparently there was a road bike race for cancer. It went from Seattle to Vancouver, BC. So in order to keep out of the way we went south instead of west. We periodically stopped to check Isaac's blood sugar (very important with any physical activity) and to munch on food. The little river that we followed had kyakers and canoers on it. They were part of the Mountains to Sound race. Amazing. We had only gone about 3 miles when we needed to stop. While resting and eating, we noticed at a soccer park they were shooting off rockets so we headed over there. We saw a couple of rockets set off and then came the rain. We hurried under a the roof next to the concession stand. We were joined by a father and his kids who were shooting off rockets and also a biker from Vancouver who was trying to bike 100 km that day. His goal was to put on 1000 km during the summer. Every one was very interesting. We learned about rockets, biking, and Google. I think that we were under there for 45 minutes. We left while it was sprinkling. By the time we got back to the car, the sun had come out and it was beautiful. I wanted to go on but the kids were adamant. NO! We had only gone about 6 miles. Back home we went.
Job didn't want to go over to the rockets - too loud.
Without hands - sans main
"Where you go, I will follow"
Ou tu vas, je vais suivre.

Tenant Lake Young Naturalist Class

This year with MP3 the kids took a class at Tenant Lake. They learned (and I as well) about rodents, slugs and snails, volcanoes, the moon, and a few other things. It was on Thursday from 3 to 4 for 6 weeks. The kids loved it and so did I. Their teacher, Miss Rachel is pregnant and oh so cute. She had lots of energy and was very creative in her teaching. On the day they studied volcanoes, she made a volcano with ice cream, scooped out a center in the top, filled it with chocolate syrup and then right before serving, she poured mint extract on the top and lit it on fire. Very impressive. The extract was 98% alcohol so it burned well and then the chocolate syrup poured over the edge of the ice cream like lava of a volcano. That was a highlight but the kids also went out on the boardwalk and used little fish nets to dip in the water and find bugs. It was a scavenger hunt. Then they talked about the bugs and identified them. I would have never done something like this on my own. Absolutely recommend this.
