Lake Pearrygin Paddle

Lake Pearygin is located a few miles outside of the town of Winthrop in the Methow Valley.  The road winds around and over dusty sagebrush covered hills and is nestled in a small depression. The campsites have full amenities as well as a designated swimming area and boat launch.  We arrived a bit before dusk for a late night paddle. the fires in other parts of the stat had turned the sky to a dusty hazy hue and obscured distant hills.  We slowly slipped our kayaks into the water, dipping our paddles turning east along the shore line.  Fishermen started making their way back to their campsites, kids were called in for bedtime and the lake became tranquil.  Occasionally, ducks would rise up, angrily voicing their displeasure as we tried to quietly glide past them. Thick brush and shrubs hugged the shoreline and spilled into the water. Small minnows rippled the surface of the water, darting this way and that.  The sun set and the sky grew darker, pinker as we rounded the end of the lake.  Taking advantage of the flow of the lake we floated along the opposite shore until we were directly across from the boat launch.  Turning our small boats we quietly made our way to shore and our vehicle.  Our evening paddle was over however it was anice start to our little weekend getaway.
