An Adventure: Lake Samish

By Leslie Parks - Wednesday, July 12, 2017

We bought these kayaks and still had John's old one from when he kayaked rivers and such.  Job wants so badly to kayak rivers. However he needs time in the water first.  Lake Sammish is perfect.  We took our little test and permitted our boats.  The test allowed us to waive the permit fee.  Placing our boats in the water, we turned south and paddled along the shore.  The great thing about Lake Sammish is the spot that the eagles hang out and fish. We must have seen a dozen or so soaring or perched in the trees.  Every once in a while, one would launch out of the tree, swoop down and pluck a fish out of the lake. It truly is amazing to watch these birds. I'm not brave enough yet to bring my good camera but get frustrated with the water proof one and my phone.  We went to the south end of the lake then started back along the western shore. Once we were directly across the lake from the boat launch, Job and I raced our kayaks to the other side.  We were dead.  His kayak turns so easily that he has to work to keep it in a straight line.  My kayak is so heavy and sits so high that it hard to get any speed. Even race.
