The Day After - Mount Baker

By Leslie Parks - Saturday, December 26, 2009

It seems as though the last few years we have gone to Mount Baker to go sledding sometime during the holidays.  This year we went the day after Christmas.  It was such a late start.  We didn't have breakfast until 10am.  Thank you John for getting up with Skagit at 5:30.  I slept until 9.  That is unheard of at our house.  Anyhow,  I was laying in bed and noticed how bright the sun was coming in our bathroom window.  It just seems to say that it was a day for an adventure.  I love adventure days.  Something out there to discover, do, explore, feel alive.  We packed a lunch, got the sleds down from the garage, loaded up the kids and the dog and left around 11:00.  Not exactly an early start but we were at the mountain by 1:00.  It was a beautiful drive, full of sarcasm and teasing from the kids and only one stop for the dog.  Things that I noticed on this particular day of sledding.

1.  The blueness of the sky was striking

2.  Skagit got cold quickly

3.  Not many photos but loved the ones I got

4.  Everyone had fun and had fun with each other.

5.  Job's almost a natural at snowboarding - he gave it a whirl with a cheap garage sale board and then tried Isaac's real board.

6.  Isaac tried snowboarding.  A hill that I really thought he would back out on.  Quite the dare-devil for him.

7.  Lona didn't fall asleep in the snow, she waited for the ride home.

8.  John loves this dog.  He held it in his coat to warm it up for a good hour.
9.  There were dogs everywhere.
