Montana Part 3

I thought I'd share a few facts about Montana. It is the 4th largest state in the Union. It's nickname is Treasure State but is also known as Big Sky Country. It's motto is Oro y Plata (Gold and Silver). Montana was the 41st State in the Union. Population is about 800,000. Think of that, there are more people living in the Seattle area than in all of Montana. Above is a sign pretty much in the middle of nowhere for Taxidermy. This is big business here. Montana is an agricultural (mainly ranching) community. There is a big difference between Ranching and Farming. Ranching you deal with animals (lots of animals) and raise crops for those animals where as Farming you raise crops and maybe have a few animals.

There is the continental divide in Montana which means that water either flows to the Gulf of Mexico here (east of the divide) or to the Pacific Ocean (west of the divide). The scenery is varied. I don't have any photos of the breaks (Eastern Montana) just mostly central and western Montana.

There are miles and miles of highway. By the side of the road there will be crosses. Usually when there is a hill with a corner at the bottom. Some people say this is gruesome but it makes you pay attention.

My mother's husband took a photo years back of this building with a rainbow behind it. He had it printed and framed for me. I have it hanging in my house. I love this building. (All photos are taken from the car at 70 mph). The highways are 70 mph and freeways are 75 mph. Roads that would be 35 here are 70 mph. Most roads in the counties are gravel unless they are highways.

Montana has an abundance of sheep, cattle, grasshoppers, hay bales and missiles.

After a trip through Montana in the summer this is what your windshield looks like and those were the small bugs.

Yes, you do see this in Montana.

I feel like I'm at the top of the world. A wide angle lens would have really shown off this beautiful area. At the top of the Beartooth Mountains. This state is rugged, beautiful and empty. There would be 45 miles between houses at different spots and I love this state.
Note: These photos were taken in a variety of place around Montana, mostly from a car going 70-80 mph.
